Welcome to Belair Christmas Lights
Belair Christmas Lights is a computertised Christmas light show synchronised to music.
Here you will find out a little more about the lights, including creating the light sequence, the steps in setting up the lights, and pictures of the show.
I have also included some "how tos" giving details on how I constructed parts of the display and hopefully inspire you to create your own show.
I began Belair Chrismtas Lights in 2011 after finding that there were 'sensibly priced' ways of producing a computerised Christmas light show if you were prepared to do some work yourself. Since then the show has grown as I have learnt more, experimented more, and bought more lights!
The total light count is approximately 20,000 and includes 'normal' LED strings and LED pixel strings - where each individual LED can be set to any colour. Using LED Pixels has actually dropped the total light count.
The show is controlled from a single PC. (update - now a Rasperry Pi) To control all the lights I use 26 DMX universes plus around 194 static on/off channels.
The show's soundtrack is broadcast via a low power FM transmitter so you can listen from your car. There are also speakers outside for those on foot.
Thorngate Drive Belair. Simply follow the signs from Main Rd Belair, next to the Belair Primary School.
The display starts on December 1 and goes through to December 28.
Shows run from (appox) 8:00pm to 10:30pm Sun-Thu and 8:00pm to 11:30pm Fri and Sat.
Each cycle is about 25 minutes long.
For Safety reasons the show may not run if it is raining.
Several people have asked me if they can make a donation toward the cost of creating and running the show. You can now donate via the button here.
26 December 2016.
The lights are off! With the torrential rain forecast for the next two days I have decided the last show will run tonight.
I look forward to being able to deliver a bigger and better show next year.
